Steelhead Advisors was founded in 2008 with a mission to bring very senior level strategic and financial expertise and deal execution to middle market technology clients looking for creative options to cultivate successful M&A transactions.

Greg Rivers founded Steelhead Advisors to bring a very personalized approach to M&A and give venture capital firms a proven partner to mentor their emerging portfolio company entrepreneurs on maintaining strategic relationships, assessing strategic alternatives and effectively executing successful M&A exits.

Greg has over 30 years of middle market technology M&A experience, completing over $9 billion in transaction value for clients in virtually every technology sector, including Software, Hardware and Infrastructure, Fintech, Connectivity and Telecommunications, Cyber Security and Industrial and Emerging Tech. Before founding Steelhead Advisors, Greg was a Managing Director in Technology Banking for JMP Securities and responsible for the Semiconductors and Hardware Systems Banking Group.

Previous to that, Greg was with Robertson Stephens where he headed the Global Semiconductor M&A practice and established the Exclusive Sales M&A Group, which focused on private company and corporate divestitures across all technology sectors. Greg began his career at Price Waterhouse and was a Managing Director in the PricewaterhouseCoopers Securities Silicon Valley Technology practice.

Greg earned his Masters in Business Administration from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA and his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Finance from the University of Southern California.

Our service approach begins with a commitment to create a business relationship with our clients well in advance of a transaction. During this period, we provide "advisory board" level advice on tactical activities and business model direction that will ultimately lay the foundation for a successful process.

Once we fully understand the shareholder objectives and our client’s abilities and business opportunities, we strive to provide an unbiased assessment of the available strategic options given current market conditions. We then work with the management team and Board to develop the appropriate plan of execution to maximize the probability of achieving a successful strategic transaction.

Once the appropriate game plan has been agreed to, we become an integral partner in the execution of the plan.

We combine independence, transaction experience, domain knowledge and industry relationships to deliver insightful strategic and tactical advice to every stage of a transaction process. After assessing shareholder objectives and providing our opinion on the transaction climate, we develop a "game plan" for effectively positioning our clients to the most suitable strategic buyers or financial sponsors. In crafting this "game plan," we provide Management with valuation and market condition insights and process options to facilitate consensus and commitment to a detailed execution plan. We leverage our experience in the subtleties of technology M&A to structure transactions that maximize shareholder returns.

Executive Mentoring

Complementing our merger and acquisition services is our executive mentoring program. Through this program, we work with CEOs on developing strong communication and negotiation skills and tactics that can be used to effectively push the corporate agenda with large customers, channel partners and potential strategic acquirers. Similar to an advisory board member, we engage on all strategic matters to provide the CEO with a strong sounding board and trusted environment to grow professionally.
